  1. Yea. Old.

Today, talking to a customer about the system they have for running a financial analysis project: 16 processors, 64 gig of RAM, terabytes of storage. Just an off-the-shelf system they had lying around.

My first computer had 256K of RAM and 40 meg of disk - and it was petty screaming for the times....

  2. My dad gave me my first computer when I was 18. First I had to format the hard drive. It took me three months and at the end the chisel was really blunt. The OS is still loading and should be ready sometime in March next year. And don't get me started about the internet speed. The mailman delivered my first byte a week ago and once my browser is loaded I'll begin to decrypt it. I wonder who it's from?

    There - I win!

  3. I almost feel like rising from my rocking chair and brandishing my slide rule.

  4. Well, our systems programmer at the insurance company I worked for last millenium kept a neat little brass abacus on his desk. He said that was the backup system. I prefer my slide rule. I can add.
